David Austin Rose

Mr 3P gave me a beautiful David Austin rose bush for Valentines Day. It's an Abraham Darby and he smells very sweet and fruity.
Aint he sweet? I'm talking about Mr 3P, not the rose ;)
It will sit in it's little pot until winter, then he'll find his new home somewhere in the garden. I noticed he had a little bit of "black spot" (now I'm talking about the rose). Not sure how to get rid of that. Looking much better than when he came home from the nursery (it was a little dark and dingy where they had left him)

Here's some other friends to keep him company.
Have a great day.

  1. Hi Marnie,

To get rid of black spot, remove and dispose of the infected leaves (not in your compost heap of course). And in the spring keep an eye on it and remove infected stems/leaves. After the spring pruning ( before the leaves break out) apply the appropriate fungicide, and keep in mind that it often requires multiple applications to get black spot under control. Hope this helps!

That is one gorgeous rose - I love the color!

  3. Marnie ... I am about to plant several David Austin roses in my side garden once construction is finished and my beds are prepared again. You have given me some nice roses to contemplate!
Kelly gives great advice. Roses are work but so worth it.

  4. Thanks Vikki. As you know, I love the David Austin roses and it may very well become an obsession! I might try to do some cuttings this year too.
So glad to hear you're putting them in your garde. Can't wait to see them on your blog. And yes, Kelly knows her suff!

  5. I have a few David Austin roses; they are so wonderful!!

For the black spot, I use a far more primative method for 'curing' my roses. I pour dish soap water on them every day.

Love your blog! I found it through your link at The Lettered Cottage.
