Bedroom Reveal

It's been a little while since I've blogged, but I'm back today to share this small montage I put together of our bedroom/bathroom reveal. The house is an ever evolving thing, so I'm sure it won't always be like this and there a several small things that need to be done. After 2 long years, we are over the moon with the results. House Extension Update, October 2012 {video}

Hi there! I thought it was time for another house extension update.

It's school holidays here, so I haven't been doing a lot of blogging. 

The house is soooooo close to being finished enough for us to move in, but now we are at the stage that we have to mainly rely on tradesmen to come (in a specific order), to finish of lots of bits. It's very frustrating, but what can you do?

My video camera was coopreatitve today, so I decided to film it. I really like the whole Youtube & iMovie thing, it's my new little interest. You may have seen my first attempt at a makeup tutorial? It's a learning curve, but I hope to get better at it. I've sent a letter to a certain man in a red suit and asked very nicely for a video camera that actually works when I need it to work....time will tell.
I have been very good this year...promise. 

so, anyway...here's the house update. Let me know what you think.

House Update ...so close, yet so far away

Well, I haven't done a house update for a while, mainly because we've been so busy working on it!

• The painting is pretty much finished...inside and out.
• The stairs are in!!
• The lights are in too!!
• The driveway is finished.
• Heating and cooling is installed.

Now we just need to put floor coverings in...some of which will be done tomorrow.

Then the tiling and plumber fitting of...and then the finishing carpenter will come and do his thing.

Then onto the garden.....hopefully the weather will be a little nicer soon.

 Measure twice, cut once. The mantra around here.

Since I took this pic, the stairs have a railing and have been painted and stained (by yours truly)

 Mr 3P has been working away this weekend to get the fireplace ready for rendering and new floorboards. That little Dremel Saw Max has been very handy around here lately. 

We went looking for a new gas fireplace to put in the existing cavity, but we haven't found one we like yet. Any suggestions?

 I pretty sure this is the bathroom floor tile we're going with. I really wanted something that was fairly neutral and didn't show dirt and hair easily. Everyone I spoke to at ALL of the tile stores suggest that you go for a matte tile for this purpose too. Time will tell.

Hopefully tomorrow we will have this laid downstairs. Will let you know how it goes.

Extension Update - Painting...still

A quick house update.

No pretty pictures today...just scary ones of me...

We are still painting, but it's a BIG extension.

The stairs are being delivered TODAY!!! and installed on Monday.

So, I've gotta dash and finish the stairwell...I'll be glad to see the last of that scaffold for now.

I feel like a monkey.

 Oh...and I just became an Auntie again ...about 15mins ago!!

Getting Plastered/Getting Laid {House Update}

The house renovation extension is coming along. Not a lot to say, but I've had emails from readers asking about what stage we're up to, so I've taken a fews snaps this afternoon.

 Proof (sorta) that I've been doing some work.

Plaster up and primer coat almost done downstairs.

I fell down this ladder 2 weeks ago and still have the bruise (no, I'm not showing you)
I'm OK by the way...thanks for asking ;)

all the bits and pieces ready to be installed (plus my stash of Coke Zero cans)

Concrete driveway and paths ready to be laid.

a whole new layer of earth in the courtyard as seen through the glass hallway that connects the two buildings (and needs a clean)

So, there we have it.

On the fence {house renovation update}

Time for another renovation update. I'm looking forward to the day when there are no more reno updates.  Not far away now, fingers and toes crossed.

 We spent this weekend painting the rendered fence (dodging the rain) and adding the fencing, which took a little longer than anticipated.

 The fence (and eventually) the house are painted in Dulux Hog Bristle (double strength). We decided to paint the render instead of adding the colour to the render with a texture coat. The reason being that the painted surface tends to seal the render and doesn't get those streaky stains that you see on a lot of homes....time will tell.

 Mr 3P has worked so hard on this house. He's done most of the work himself (with a little "help" from moi). It has been a major struggle getting tradies to call back or show up. The few that we have used have been wonderful.

 So, this is the view from the road....it's looking kinda like a house now, don't you think?

 The recycled bricks on the portico are over 100 years old and are from all over Melbourne. Originally, we were going to render it all, but we love the look and texture of the old bricks, so we've decided to keep some as a feature. I wouldn't mind using some when we re-do the fireplace and mantle in the future dining room...some of it will have to come down next week when we break though to the extension. Exciting times.

 The outdoor lights have arrived, so they'll be installed soon too. There are wire sticking out all over the place right now.

 So, for a quick look inside.... The plasterers arrived last week (something we were not prepared to do ourselves). This is the view from the foyer, looking up to the stairwell.

 Our bedroom is starting to look like a room. Mr 3P has insulated EVERYTHING. It's so quiet.

 The grey boards are regular plasterboard and the blue ones are for wet areas in the bathrooms and ensuite.

 can't wait to use that bath........one day soon I hope.

I wonder what those three things are for? Can you guess?

 This is the second bedroom. The red thing is something the plasterers use to lift sheets onto the walls (so I'm told)

It's been a long weekend and I have paint in my hair, so I'm outta here.

House Extension Update

It's been ages since I've done an update on our house extension. This time I thought I'd have a go at a video....it's my first, so it's kinda dodgy.
We're just waiting for the renderers to finish the front of the house and then we can put in a driveway (yay...no more dust every 5 minutes). Everything is sooo close to being finished, but it's just a waiting game with the weather.
There's no sound at the start (cos I forgot to talk...lol).

Extension Update II

This year has seen a lot of rain in Melbourne, which has slowed down our progress a little. But, we have windows!! Woot, woot!!! Plus a few other additions.

Mr 3P and Pickle#1started knocking out the wall that will eventually join the existing house with the new addition. 

A glass atrium will be the "hallway" the joins the two sections together.

There was a lovely little mouse's nest in between the walls. I think it had been abandoned long ago (probably thought we were too noisy)

This is the view from the atrium, looking out to the front entry and door. Where Pickle #2 is standing will be our lounge room.

I used a bunch of this rubble to fill in garden pots (makes for good drainage)

All of the pickles were given the task to clean the bricks that were removed. They had a blast and worked really hard. We'll reuse whatever we can.

I think working in Spiderman boots makes all the difference...don't you?

My Grandmother would say " You could grow potatoes under those nails". 

This is the frame for the portico at the front door. I'm not sure what Mr 3P is doing, is he reading? Extensions for Dummies maybe? lol

Mr 3P put in about 5 window frames yesterday (no photos yet). We chose double glazed, so the glazier will come and put the glass in later. I didn't know anything about double glazed windows before, but they'll make a huge difference to the costs of heating and cooling of the house and is a much "greener" choice. :)

Hopefully we'll have a plumber do his thing next week, so the brickies can start. Fingers and toes crossed.
