When I was pregnant with my first 2 children I had gestational diabetes. With my first boy I gained over 35kg !!! I had to use insulin in the last week of the pregnancy and he had to be induced 2 weeks early...it was not nice and very scary, especially for a first time Mum. I lost 30kg in the year following his birth and shortly after became pregnant with pickle #2, I had the GD again, but was able to control it with diet. Of course there was weight gain, but not as much as the first time....a lot of that came off too.
Then pickle #3 came along......no gestational diabetes, (I had learnt a lot of lessons about nutrition by now).....some weight gain.....add to that the weight that didn't come off from the first two and you've got serious lard-arse-ness.
OK, so even though I'm making jokes, none of it is funny.
Fast forward to Christmas Day 2011....at the table, talking to my friend Elizabeth about her work as a personal trainer.........suddenly I'm having this conversation in my head (to myself)
Wait....I have a friend who is a PT? .......
Um....why have I not asked for her help before???
Because, you're a dufus, that's why.
So I ask......
and she said..."sure"
and so it began.
Crap on a cracker....now I HAVE to stick to it....I can't run away and hide....she's my friend...she may hunt me down and kill me!!! Or worse, make me eat brussel sprouts or something vile like that...eeeew.
So, six weeks in to it and I've lost over 6kgs!! I'm pretty chuffed, but have a long way to go. And it hasn't been easy (I've blown it a few times, but that's OK as long as I don't give up), but it is certainly rewarding and I feel great.
Food and meal planning is a major factor in weight loss...basically, if you consume more calories than you burn in a day, then you'll gain weight....it's simple math. There is no fat gene...trust me, if that was truth, I would've had that sucker removed a long time ago.
I was happy to receive some Body for Women products to try from Body Science. I've only been using them for a little over a week, but I'll be continuing to incorporate them into my meal planning. I'm loving the chocolate shake, which is great at breakfast and the lemon meringue snack bar (plus the other yummy flavours) have curbed the sweet cravings that I get in the arvo. They make my mornings, which are pretty hectic (I'm sure yours are too) easier, and I don't skip breakfast anymore...which is really not a good thing to do.
